Security Tips - For Your Home (highlights)
The Escambia County Sheriff's Office encourages all residents to be smart about security. Those neighborhoods where the majority of homes practice these simple ideas are substantially safer than those who do not. - Put your vehicles in your garage.
- Lock your vehicle doors.
- Keep your garage door closed day and night.
- Keep shrubs trimmed low around windows.
- Know your neighbors.
- Participate in Neighborhood Watch.
- Ask the Sheriff's Office to patrol your home when you are away for a few days, 436-9630. Ask a neighbor to collect your mail while away or have the post office hold it.
Add if you don't have:
- Motion-detecting security lights on all four sides of your home.
- LED landscape lighting in your front and back yards. At least leave your porch light on overnight.
- Alarm system with sensors at each exterior door and motion detectors inside.
- Deadbolts on all exterior doors with 3" #12 screws. Peephole on your front door.
- Timers on lights while you are away, in different rooms, and a radio on.
